The three public libraries in Washington County, Iowa are: Washington, Wellman, and Kalona. These libraries are part of a collaborative association called the Washington County Public Library Association, or WCPLA for short.

The Washington Public Library was established in 1877. The mission of the library is to provide educational, cultural, and social enrichment to all residents of the City of Washington and surrounding areas; and to promote the freedom to read and to freely choose from all sources of information and knowledge which are provided in the library collection. 115 W. The Wellman-Scofield Public Library strives to meet the challenge of the founders at the formal opening in 1908. “On this solid foundation of public good will, we trust that future years will build a structure which will materially manifest in a handsome building filled with the best reading matter which will be free to all.” 711 4th Street Mon. 10:00-6:00 |
The Kalona Public Library was first opened in 1934. The mission of the Kalona Public Library is to provide information and materials of general interest free to the public in a pleasant and helpful environment where people can meet, and receive help for lifelong learning. 510 C Ave. Mon.-Thu. 9:30-8:00 |
