The three public libraries in Washington County, Iowa are: Washington, Wellman, and Kalona. These libraries are part of a collaborative association called the Washington County Public Library Association, or WCPLA for short.

The Washington Public Library was established in 1877. The mission of the library is to provide educational, cultural, and social enrichment to all residents of the City of Washington and surrounding areas; and to promote the freedom to read and to freely choose from all sources of information and knowledge which are provided in the library collection. 115 W. The Kalona Public Library was first opened in 1934.
